Volunteer sign-up [from Rob Whipple]
Welcome back to another great season of swimming. With less than a week before the meet we need to get signed up on the usual www.doodle.com web site.
On the administration front Wayne Toner has retired. I am in and out of Northern Saskatchewan and won’t be at the meet so I’ve put Doug Eastick as a contact. Please sign up i.e. “volunteer” for timing and other officials’ duties.
The meet is 2 sessions:
- Saturday afternoon (1:30 warm-up 2:30 start) and
- Sunday morning (8:00 warm-up 9:00 start)
The pool will have the bulkhead in the middle meaning it is a short course event - deep and shallow ends will be running races simultaneously. For a session (shallow and deep) 3 timers/lane x 8 lanes x 2 ends = 48 timers. Officials meet 30 minutes prior to start, usually in the back room near the south entrance to the Ben Avery (pool) building.
There are other duties: Strokes & Turns, Chief Timer, Clerk of Course, Chief Finish Judge, Electronics (Randy Hotta and the band), Starter, etc. for those are qualified.
1 hour prior to the session start 4 safety marshals are required on deck with those orange vests. Session/meet refs are doing their job but won’t let swimmers into the pool for warm-up until the safety marshals are on deck. So, don’t be too shy and offer your name please.
For those who want to volunteer for the kitchen, i.e. preparing and serving food, Janet Laliberté is the contact.
Sessions
- Saturday: 2:30pm start (1:30 warm-up) double-ended = short-course
- Sunday: 9:00am start (8:00 warm-up) double-ended = short-course
If you are looking for a deck evaluation, for timer or other position see the session referee prior to the start of the officials meeting.
Officials meeting start 30 minutes prior to the start of the session; please show up and check your name on the officials sheets 45 minutes prior so we know you are in the building.
The hyperlinks below will direct you to polls set up in doodle.com. Just click on the hyper link and enter your name on the left and scroll across to the session, lane, or position you want and click on the box. It will turn green when you check it. If the maximum number of timers (3) are already signed up for a particular lane, pick another lane. If you are a Head Lane Timer, please put HLT after your name and pick Lanes 2 or 4 or 6. If you’re strokes & turns qualified you are a head lane timer (HLT). If the hyperlink does not work, open your browser, copy and paste the link on the address bar and hit enter: it should work now.
TIMERS, HEAD LANE TIMERS (a.k.a. HLT):

Four SAFETY MARSHALS are required per session to be on deck at the start of warm-up. A safety marshal will miss the officials meeting so if you’re new to timing don’t worry: there will be plenty of opportunity to do this job at a later time. To volunteer for SAFETY MARSHAL click on the following hyperlink:

STROKES & TURNS click on the following hyperlink. Four are required per session and S&T judges will be on the bulkhead during the morning and afternoon sessions.
