Info for Families on the Swimming Canada Web Site

There is some valuable information for swim families on the Swimming Canada web site. Most importantly, there is information of upcoming meets, past meets and your swimmers performance to date. Many parents are familiar with this information. If so, please ignore this message. However, if you have not accessed this site, it is well worth the time to explore a bit.

 

Please go to www.swimming.ca .

Here are some instructions to guide you in your search.

(1) To get upcoming meet packages: click the "events" tab on the main site, then select "meet list & results" , then select "upcoming meets", select Ontario as the region (swimon), and Northeastern as the region this will limit the meets to our region. Then click on "show" and you will see all the upcoming meetings. There is a column labeled "Pkg" and a date in that column. By clicking the date you can access the meet package. I have attached the East Side Mario's package as an example. This information can be downloaded several weeks in advance.

(2) To get previous meet results: select to the "Meet Results" tab and select Ontario, and NEOR, you can get the electronic results from prior meets.

(3) To get your swimmers best times for all events: select the "Records & Rankings" from the home page, and then select "search for an athlete", enter your swimmer's first and last name, then click on their name on the list to see your swimmers best performances.

Upcoming schedules and meetings

Hi every one. I hope you are enjoying the nice weather this week, makes up for September. The Long weekend is upon us and the only schedule change is that ALL PRACTICES are CANCELLED on Monday OCT 11th. All practices on Saturday Oct 9th are being run as regularly scheduled.
 
At the beginning of the year we arrange to have each group meet individually as a parent information meeting. These meetings give you a chance to speak with the coaches and the coaches a chance to speak with you about things to expect, etc. Next week we will have a series of these meetings. Please see the schedule below for your groups parent meeting.

All meetings will be in the Ken Bahnuk lounge unless otherwise announced. 

October 12 - NOVICE 6:00 pm approx. 30-40 minutes
October 13 - Group 4 6:00 pm
October 14 - Group 3 6:00 pm  
                       - Group 1 5:00 pm location to be confirmed
October 16 - Group 2 8:45 am

Notice of Annual General Meeting 2010

The Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club will be holding the Annual General Meeting for members on Saturday October 2, 2010.  The meeting will be held in the Ken Bahnuk Lounge at Laurentian University, Ben Avery Building from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.  All member families are encouraged to attend.

An Agenda will be distributed by email 5 days prior to the meeting.

At this meeting there will be elections for THREE of the seven Director positions.  Each Director position is a two-year term; with three directors being elected this year, and four directors elected the following year.  After the AGM, at the next Board meeting, the elected Directors select Officers (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, etc.) from within the elected Board.  If you are interested in an elected Director position, please submit your name to the Secretary (Nancy Young nyoung@laurentian.ca ) by Monday September 27, 2008.  For more information on the structure of the Board, refer to the Club Handbook available at http://sudburyswimming.typepad.com/slsc/member-info.html 

Your 4 members continuing on the board until Sept/Oct 2011 are:

Take your marks.....

Hello swimmers and swimming families. We hope you had a great summer. Now that your swimmers are tired of smelling like lake water, sunscreen, and beach sand, they can get back to that mmmmmm-fresh smell of chlorine!

We wanted to give you a heads-up on the start of the swim season. The starting weeks will be as follows.

• Levels 1, 2, and 3 - starting September 13, 2010
• Levels 4, 5, and Novice - starting September 20, 2010.

Registration packages are available below, and the Training Schedule too.  Registration is a requirement to get into the pool.  Current Registration Dates are listed in the Registration Pack.

The Fee schedule has been emailed to existing members.   For new potential members, please email swimclub@laurentian.ca to request a copy.

SLSC Wins Ontario Division 2 Team Championships!

This past weekend saw the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club claim the championship banner at the Ontario Division II Team Championships.  The competition was help in Brantford Ontario with 20 teams from all over Ontario taking part.  In Division II championships each club is allowed to bring only 30 swimmers to compete.  SLSC had 30 swimmers contribute to the win and had many outstanding individual performances.  The victory gives SLSC the opportunity to compete in Division I Team Championships next year.  That meet hosts the very best swim clubs in Ontario and is the top tier of swimming in the Province.

Individual event winners this past weekend for SLSC were Kelly Hotta (5 golds), Kyleigh Commito (4 gold), Justin LeClair (3 gold), Kasey Thompson, (3 gold), Jacob Toner (3 gold),  Colin Hirschfeld (2 gold), Nina Kucheran (2 gold),  and Justin Burton-McCarthy (1 gold).  There were also medalists from SLSC as well including Spencer Hirschfeld , Julie Langlois, and Neal Young-Gregoris.  Top 8 performances were put in by Jordano Cazzola, Brenna Eastick, Molly Green, Tessa Jewel, Tori Jewel, Alex Langlois, Libby Lawson, Logan McGinn, Chiara Salvador, Sarah Tkachuk, and Emilie Whipple.   Competing team mates included Connor Bowie,  Beyonca Bown-Downie,  Morgan Kivinen,  Maddy Lawson,  Alysha Matarazzo,  Meghan McCue,  Alex Sarvas,  and Caelan Thompson.

Head Coach Dean Henze said, “all team members put forth a great effort and I am proud to be a part of the strongest swim club in the North Eastern Ontario Region.”

Congratulations to all of Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club, it was a total team effort.

Directions to Etobicoke Olympium

SLSC Timer's Clinic - take 2

Happy New Year everyone,
 
I'm back as you can well read for a second time.  I'll apologize for the short notice but did not get confirmation on the room until recently.
 
I'm going to skip the verbage that was in the first request sent back in November - straight to the point.

The Bahnak Lounge (Note 1) has been reserved for Saturday January 9th from 7:00 am to noon.  Dan Langlois has graciously offered his time to put on a Timers Clinic for those of you who would like to get qualified.  It should take no more than an hour and a half.  You will have to register your name and other contact information which is submitted to NEOR for record keeping after the clinic.  The clinic is a PowerPoint presentation followed by a short multiple choice test and is open to all swimmers' parents.  Not to worry the test is not difficult.
 
Please reply directly to rwhipple@sympatico.ca with your name and telephone number.  Or call the number below.  The plan is to take the first 3 or 4 replies and determining what time is most convenient for the clinic.
 
If you ask to participate and there is not enough interest I'll contact you directly.
 
For those of you who are already qualified timers, please be patient we'll be running clinics for Strokes & Turns Judge and also for Chief Timer.

SLSC Have great performances in the Sault

SLSC had 32 swimmers attend the Joey Calzone Invitational in Sault Ste Marie this past weekend.  The club finished in a close 2nd place behind the Host Sault Ste Marie Aquatic Club. Individual High Point winners from SLSC included Libby Lawson, Beyonca Bown-Downie, Kasey Thompson, Julie Langlois, and Jacob Toner.  The club swam to 73% best times over the weekend which is very good. Provincial standards were made by Spencer Hirschfeld, Kelly Hotta, Alex Langlois, Julie Langlois, Kasey Thompson, and Jacob Toner. The next competition for SLSC is the NEOR development meet in North Bay November 28 & 29th.  The following week sees the best swimmers in Ontario and beyond compete in the Youth Cup meet in Etobicoke.  See the link below for complete results for Joey Calzone

Big group off to Joey Calzone meet

On Friday of this week a group of 36 swimmers from SLSC will be going to Sault Ste Marie for the Joey Calzone meet.  The bus is leaving from the University at 12:00 noon SHARP!  Pre-boarding the bus will start at 11:30 am.  Please see the link below for entries for this meet.  If you not on this list it is for one fo 2 reasons #1 You were not invited or #2 you indicated through email that you were not attending the meet.  Have a great week of preparation and see you on the bus.
